On April 13, 1893 Kingsholm staged a match between a “Gloucestershire Scratch XV” and a “Yorkshire Scratch XV”. The Gloucestershire side won by 2 tries and a penalty goal (9 points) to a dropped goal and a try (7). Gloucestershire included guest players Elliott of Cardiff and Gould of Newport, both Welsh internationals.
The Citizen reported “A record gate for Kingsholm and a magnificent match. The promoters expect that over £100 will be netted”.
A smoking concert at The Ram followed the match.
