"Nasty low outsiders"

Extract taken from the Gloucester Standard and Gloucestershire News, Saturday, October 11, 1890:

THE GLOUCESTER FOOTBALL CLUB AND THE LATE FIRE.

The Gloucester football team play their first home match today, against Rugby, and the committee have decided to give half the nett takings at the gate to the sufferers by the late fire at the Atlas works. Permission to canvas the ground has been given by the Corporation, so that no “nasty low outsiders” may look on, and as the prices for admission are to be doubled in view of the charitable nature of the event, a big gate may be expected. Ever ready to do a good turn for his fellow-citizens, our veteran Mayor (Mr. Stafford) has consented to kick off in this important match.
