Nothing really changes.....

A Comment by the Citizen Rugby Correspondent Bill Bailey on the state of the game in March 1925:

WHAT IS WRONG WITH RUGBY?

When players in a “needle” match become so affected by their club’s standing that they consistently and flagrantly show their disagreement with the referee’s decisions …..then the best corrective for them is fair and adequate defeat.

On that account one was heartily glad that Newport were defeated squarely by Gloucester, and I hope the City will administer the same medicine on each occasion that they have to play against teams who adopt “attitudes”. Some of the Newport players in this game gesticulated wildly whenever they disagreed with Mr Southby’s decisions and they were not above accompanying it with audible comments. If schoolboys were to indulge in this sort of thing they might have some excuse, but they don’t! Fortunately this posing had no effect on Mr Southby’s command of the game.
