Numbering of Jerseys

Extract taken from Minutes of GRFC Committee Meeting held on 26 July 1955.

“Numbering of Jerseys.   On the suggestion of the President, who stated he did not subscribe to the superstition regarding No. 13, it was agreed that the club jerseys be numbered 1 – 15.”

Extract from programme Glos v Clifton; 4 Sept. 1971

“It will perhaps take supporters some while to get accustomed to seeing the lads numbered “back to front”, as it were. At the request of the Rugby Union the Cherry and Whites, for the first time in their 99 years’ history, will number from 15 to 1, as most clubs have done for several seasons. That is, the full-back will now be No. 15 instead of the old familiar No. 1.”
