Extract taken from GRFC match programme Gloucester v Bristol 28 September 1974:

The visit of our very good friends and stern rivals, Bristol, to Kingsholm never fails to stir the imagination of even lukewarm supporters and we extend an extremely cordial welcome to them this afternoon,

As Mr. George Wright, the County Secretary, said recently, there is no need to advocate the introduction of the ‘League’ system to our great game of Rugby football. What keener rivalry and exciting rugger can one get than the matches between our two famous clubs, he asked.”
