September 1st 2018:   The match against Northampton Saints in the newly sponsored Gallagher Premiership was the club’s 5,000th competitive game since the club was started in 1873.
To help celebrate the fact a group of former players gathered together and took part in a celebratory walk around the new pitch.
As you might expect they received a huge welcome and loud cheers from the gathered crowd of supporters.  Even the Northampton supporters showed their appreciation.    John Simonett, one of the former players taking part, has commented that pictures taken at the walk showed a unique aspect of rugby union – Northampton supporters in the Shed mingling with their rivals, something you would never see at a football match.

We hope you like the photograph taken by Club Photographer Martin Bennett.    If you would like a copy why not give him a call.   I’m sure he’d be pleased to hear from you.

We suspect that you may recognise some, but maybe not all, of the former players.   So, we’ve done our best to identify them all for you.   But before checking out the list have a go at naming them yourself.   If you want to know more about their playing careers have a look at our “Player Profiles” and listen to some of them being interviewed on our “Recordings” page.
