Share your stories about Gloucester Rugby
By Dick Williams

We'd like anything that relates to Gloucester Rugby Club, Gloucestershire Rugby, or International Rugby where Gloucester players have been involved.

Upload your own contributions

You can very easily compose your own contributions for publication on the website. It's really simple to do, and an easy-to-follow training file is available below as a download. When you've read through it, go to "Contribute" on the Main Menu, and zap it to us. Our editors will publish it just as soon as they can.

Players, Non-Players

Have you any information relating to the early players, or to key non-playing members of the Club? Let's not forget the club chairmen, secretaries, treasurers, coaches, physios, groundsmen, tea ladies, programme sellers, mascots, etc.

Did you or one of your family ever play for Gloucester? If so, we certainly want to know!

Reminiscences, Memorabilia

We'd very much welcome your reminiscences, and if you have any memorabilia we can borrow to photograph or scan, we'd like to consider displaying it on the website.

Any memorabilia which relates to the development of Kingsholm, or even before Kingsholm? Any anecdotes that you wish to share with others?

We have uploaded a large number of Match Programmes, but still have significant gaps, especially for Away matches, and for the majority of matches before the late 1970s. We'd love to see these gaps filled, and would welcome the chance to scan them for the website.

Interviews

In some cases an interview with you might be best, and we'll happily arrange it.

New Ideas

Ideas for the further development of the site, especially in areas where we haven't ventured yet; new topics - perhaps something specifically for younger fans?

Hi Scott - I have now confirmed that we interviewed Ron on 9 Jan and the resulting recording has to be edited, split into digital files of the right length and then uploaded to the website. It's a long job and it's in the queue with other interviews, but I promise you we'll get it completed just as soon as we can.

My grandfather, Fred Lewis-Watkins (1880 - 1925), was born and lived all his life in Clapham, Kingsholm. He was a rugby player. A member of the Lewis-Watkins family does have a rugby medal which he won. I am just enquiring whether it is possible to find out if Fred played for Gloucester. Some years ago I did watch a match at Kingsholm, and had a good look at the old photos of teams which were on show. I seem to remember that there was a player in one (?), L Watkins, which may or may not have been a Lewis-Watkins. Any help you can give me would be gratefully received. Barbara Edmonds

Derek - we've not yet completed our researches into all of the players of that era, but have come across a reference to V. Rowles playing two matches as a forward in the 1885/86 season. We'll let you know if we find anything further.

My Grandfather's younger brother Victor William Rowles (1867 - 1924) was a Shipbroker & Vice Consul in the Docks. His published obituary states that "He played for Gloucester in the 1880s under H.J.Boughton & later became a member of the Gloucester Rugby Supporters Club. His funeral records "a floral tribute from the Gloucester Rugby Football Club". The family lived close to the Spa for many years. I have never managed to find any other rugby reference to Victor Rowles & am trying to find more. I have been watching & supporting Gloucester since 1945.

We've moved some suggestions for candidates for additional Player Profiles to a new area specifically for this purpose. Click on "People" and then "Player Profiles", and you'll find it.
