Surely not the round ball at Kingsholm?

Tailpiece

‘If anyone asked you about the possibility of Soccer posts being erected at Kingsholm, you would probably need reviving with copious draughts of something warming before you could trust yourself to answer. Yet there they were. In the ‘Citizen’.

In the ‘Bygone Gloucester’ feature of two Mondays ago, there was a picture of the 1917-18 Atlas Works soccer team, with officials. And there was no doubt about it – the group was posed, in front of goal posts, at Kingsholm. The houses in Worcester Street, and the end of Sweetbriar Street are plainly visible.

Just as interesting are two of the Atlas players – none other than two Gloucester RFC legends – ‘Fatha’ Dix and Tom Millington, no less!

I don’t know if Atlas played here regularly, but it would be interesting to find out. In a macabre sort of way.

I suppose if Rugby League can seriously be regarded as a proposition for Bridgend, then anything can happen.’
