But for the Welsh
By Malc King
Gloucester had a pretty good season at the turn of the 20th century, playing 32 matches in the 1899-1900 season, winning 23 of them, drawing 2 and losing 7.
However, all 7 defeats came at the hands of Welsh clubs - home and away to Swansea, Cardiff and Newport, and away to Llanelly, the only relief coming at home to Llanelly with a 7-3 victory.
The record against the big 4 Welsh clubs was played 8, won 1, lost 7; points for 16, against 85. The record against all other clubs was played 24, won 22, drawn 2; points for 390, against 25. This did at least include the double over Penarth by 26-0 and 16-4, and a win over Treherbert 26-0.
