The Gloucester Journal reported on Saturday November 10, 1928:

A Disgraceful Scene

“Gloucester visited Cheltenham and won by 9 pts. to nil, but the game was abandoned by the referee seven minutes before time owing to several players becoming engaged in a ‘free fight’.

T. Harries, the Aberavon and Welsh International half back, who was making his first appearance for Cheltenham, had his jaw broken in a ‘collision’ with a Gloucester player, and Abbey, the City outside half, also had to retire with a leg injury.”
