Day 3 - Thursday 10 May - Levelling the surface
Start of the day
Bulldozer creeps into the scene.
Start of another run along the pitch.
Another big shift. The GPS transducer can be seen at the top of the pole connected to the scoop.
The GPS base station remotely controlling the height of the bulldozer scoop which can be set to an accuracy of 2mm.
Another load being shifted.
Soil piled up at the end of the run. None of the soil leaves the site. It's all being redistributed around the pitch.
The bulldozer travelling across the pitch to start a new run.
The bulldozer close to the shed.
Evidence that there is still more to do.
The soil ridge viewed from low level.
End of the day - viewed from the eastern end of the shed. Still more of the same required tomorrow.
The day started by harrowing the solid surface to create a soft spongy surface several inches thick. After that the bulldozer started shifting the soil around to eventually create the required surface profile of the new pitch. The height of the bulldozer’s scoop was controlled by the GPS base station. None of the soil will be lost. It will simply be redistributed around the pitch. At the end of the day there was still a lot of work to be done to create the correct profile.
