The Sid Brown Fund

Gloucester player and vice-Captain, Sid Brown, suffered an accidental injury in 1926 whilst playing Aberavon at Kingsholm, from which tragically he later died. He was the second Gloucester player in just over a year to die from rugby injuries, and in both cases The Citizen organised appeals.

An article dated Saturday June 5, 1926, has come to light which provides details of the Sid Brown Appeal, which realised a sum of just over £1644, donations coming “from all parts of England and Wales, as well as America and Bermuda”.
