Consecutive Appearances

In the match between Gloucester and Lydney, the opener of season 1950-51,
the Citizen match report mentions that Roy Parry (forward) had to cry off with a twisted knee, missing a match for the first time for a season and a half.

He had played 69 consecutive matches for Gloucester.

We wondered if this was a record and investigated. It emerged that Roy’s 69 consecutive appearances ended, not through playing for Gloucester, but in turning out in a charity game, where he twisted his knee. Our records confirm that he played in the Lydney game on 9 September, which was number 69. The programme for the following game on 16 September states, “It was particularly unfortunate that R. Parry, after such a long run without missing a game should have been injured in a non-club game”.

The club record is held by Nick Foice who played in 80 successive games from September 1964 to March 1966.
